How Subscriptions Work on FanBasis
Last updated: December 9, 2025
Overview
Subscriptions on FanBasis allow creators to offer payment plans for digital products, memberships, coaching programs, and more. Unlike one-time purchases, subscriptions give your customers the ability to pay in installments over time, on a schedule you set.

Creating a Subscription Payment Plan
To get started:
Go to your Dashboard → Products
Click Create a Payment Link
Select the Subscription tab
Fill out the product name, optional description, and pricing
Choose a payment frequency (e.g., every 30 days)
Under Advanced Settings, configure:
Free trial (optional)
One-time initial fee (optional)
Add a Redirect Link (optional)
Subscription end date ((important – see below)
⚠ Understanding “Subscription End Date” (IMPORTANT)By default, subscriptions continue until canceled.
To create a fixed-term plan, toggle “End date” and set the number of billing periods.Example:
A 3-month plan with no initial fee → Set to 2 billing periods
A 3-month plan with an initial fee → Set to 3 billing periods
Why? Because the initial fee is charged immediately, then the 3 recurring payments follow.
Common Mistake: It’s easy to overlook this setting, so double-check if you want the subscription to end automatically.
Example: If the plan lasts 3 months, set this to 2 periods if there is no initial fee, if there is an initial fee set the periods to 3 periods— the first payment is immediate

How to Create and Apply a Discount
Go to the Discounts tab
Create new discount code
To edit previous discounts click the pencil icon to edit a code
Add your subscription product to the code
You can apply discount codes to both low- and high-ticket subscription products
High-Ticket Subscriptions
Use Case: Coaching, consulting, or group programs
Price Point: $5,000+
Scenario: $2,000 down payment, followed by $1,000/month for 3 months
Key Settings:
Set $1,000 as the recurring price
Use the Initial Fee setting for the $2,000 down payment
Frequency: Monthly
End after 3 periods (3 additional payments after the initial charge)
BNPL (Buy Now, Pay Later) is not supported for subscriptions.
Pausing a Subscription
Subscriptions can be paused, and you can delay billing by extending the subscription manually:
Go to Customers > Subscriptions
Click Action → + and enter the number of days to delay the next billing cycle.
OR
Click Pause → | | - This will pause the subscription. If you unpause it, it will resort back to the Subscription due date, or if it's past the due date, it will charge the customer right away.
Failed Payments
If a customer’s “Days till renewal” is 0 but no transaction appears:
Most likely a payment failure
To confirm:
Go to the Transactions tab
Filter by Failed
Export the list – the “Reason” column will show the failure reason
FanBasis will retry the payment 3 times over 3 days before canceling the subscription.
Customer View:
On their end, customers will see a full payment breakdown including:
First charge (initial fee)
Recurring schedule
End date (if set)
